There’s a moment every guitarist knows. You pick up your instrument, play a chord, and something just feels off. Maybe the action is too high and your hand is cramping by the third song. Maybe you’re hearing a buzz on the seventh fret that wasn’t there last month. Maybe your intonation has drifted so far that your open chords sound fine but everything above the fifth fret sounds like it’s underwater.
Most players live with it. They compensate. They press harder, avoid certain positions on the neck, or convince themselves it’s just how the guitar sounds. But it doesn’t have to be that way — and we’re excited to announce that we can now help.
A Natural Extension of What We Do
We’ve always been about helping people sound their best. That’s been true in the studio from day one — whether we’re tracking a full band, mixing a singer-songwriter demo, or mastering an album for release. But we kept running into the same thing: musicians would come in to record, and their instruments needed work before we could even hit the red button.
A guitar with bad intonation doesn’t just feel wrong — it sounds wrong on a recording, and no amount of mixing can fix that. So rather than sending people out to find a tech and come back another day, we decided to bring that expertise in-house. Guitar setup and repair is now a full service we offer alongside our recording, mixing, and mastering work.
What a Professional Setup Actually Does
If you’ve never had your guitar professionally set up, you might be surprised at the difference it makes. A setup isn’t a repair — it’s a full optimization of every adjustable element on your instrument, tailored specifically to how you play.
Here’s what’s involved. We start with the neck, adjusting the truss rod to set the right amount of relief for your string gauge and tuning. Too much bow and the action gets sloppy in the middle of the neck. Too flat and you’ll get fret buzz everywhere. There’s a sweet spot, and it’s different for every player.
From there, we set the action height at the bridge and nut. If you’re a light-touch fingerpicker, you can get away with action that would make a heavy strummer buzz out on every chord. If you tune down or use heavier strings, the geometry changes again. We set it for you, not some factory default that tries to be acceptable for everyone and ends up being ideal for no one.
Then comes intonation — making sure your guitar plays in tune all the way up the neck, not just at the open strings. We check and adjust pickup height so your output is balanced and your magnets aren’t pulling on the strings. We inspect the nut slots to make sure they’re cut to the right width and depth for your string gauge. And we clean and condition the fretboard while everything is accessible.
When it’s done, your guitar feels like a different instrument. The notes ring cleaner. Bends are easier. Chords sound fuller. It’s not magic — it’s just precision.
Built for Players, by Players
This isn’t a side hustle bolted onto a recording studio. We’re musicians ourselves, and we understand what it feels like to play an instrument that’s fighting you versus one that’s working with you. That perspective shapes everything about how we approach a setup — we’re not just turning screws to hit a spec sheet. We’re dialing in a feel.
When you drop off your guitar, we’ll ask how you play, what tunings you use, what string gauge you prefer, and what’s been bugging you. That conversation matters more than any measurement, because a setup is only as good as its fit to the person holding the instrument.
Bring It In
Whether your guitar needs a seasonal tune-up, a long-overdue setup, or a repair you’ve been putting off, we’re ready. And if you’re coming in to record, consider getting your instrument set up beforehand — you’ll hear the difference in every take.
No appointment necessary for drop-offs. Reach out to us to get a quote or ask any questions about what your instrument might need. We’re happy to take a look and give you an honest assessment before any work begins.
Your guitar should feel like an extension of your hands — not an obstacle between you and the music. Let’s get it there.
